چکیده
Abstract We explore the sensitivity offered by a global network of cosmic-ray detectors to novel, unobserved phenomenon: widely separated simultaneous extended air showers. Existing localized observatories work independently observe individual showers, offering insight into source and nature ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays. However no current observatory is large enough provide anticipated processes such as Gerasimova–Zatsepin effect or potential new physics that generate showers hundreds thousands kilometers. A consumer electronics (the Cosmic Rays Found In Smartphones (CRAYFIS) experiment), may novel opportunity for observation phenomena. Two user scenarios are explored. first, with maximal adoption, we find statistically significant discoveries spatially but coincident possible within couple years. second, more practical adoption model 10 6 active devices, worldwide CRAYFIS be sensitive “burst” phenomena where many extensive (EAS) occur at once.

KASCADE extensive air shower experiment
The main aim of the KASCADE extensive air shower (EAS) experiment is the determination of the chemical composition of cosmic rays in the energy range around and above the knee at Ek ≈ 3 PeV. A large number of observables is measured simultaneously for each individual event, by the combination of various detection techniques for the electromagnetic, the muonic, and the hadronic component of the ...
متن کاملCosmic Ray Results from the IceTop Air Shower Array
IceTop, the surface component of the IceCube neutrino telescope at the South Pole, is an air-shower array which will finally consist of 160 ice Cherenkov tanks at 80 stations spread over an area of 1 km. Currently 40 stations are deployed and taking data. The detector is designed to cover the energy range above the knee up to about 10 eV and study the mass composition of primary cosmic rays. In...
متن کاملThe sensitivity of cosmic ray air shower experiments for excited lepton detection
In models with substructure in the fermionic sector, excited fermion states are expected. Excited leptons could be produced in the interaction of high energy quasihorizontal cosmic neutrinos with the atmosphere via neutral and charged current processes, νN → ν∗X and νN → l∗X. The hadronic component X, and possibly part of the excited lepton decay products, would originate an extensive air showe...
متن کاملStudy of the Extensive Air Shower Size and the Energy Spectra of Cosmic Ray Muons at Sea Level
In this paper I presented the results obtained for the differential energy spectra of muons at sea level determined as a function of three zenith angles. I calculated the shower size and the number of muons per square meter as a function of the lateral distance from the center of the shower. The data interpretation provide the most significant physical information for understanding the main pro...
متن کاملMethods of Determination of the Energy and Mass of Primary Cosmic Ray Particles at Extensive Air Shower Energies
Measurements of cosmic ray particles at energies above E >∼ 5 · 10 14 eV are performed by large area ground based air shower experiments. Only they provide the collection power required for obtaining sufficient statistics at the low flux levels involved. In this review we briefly outline the physics and astrophysics interests of such measurements and discuss in more detail various experimental ...
